SOLUTIONS

2.1

Five identical symbols are shown on the side of each Sermo model - S, E, R, M and O. We know the names of each model, and can therefore assign the letters in CHEETAH to the symbols that appear on the key card in fig. iv, LYNX to the key card in fig. v and JAGUAR to the key card in fig. vi. This gives enough letters to begin extrapolating the others from the cipher in fig. vii. Once fully translated, it reads:

“The charge originated at Node A and was output via the red line following the repeating pattern R, G, B…”

2.2

The correct path through should be as follows, where the bracketed values represent the ‘colour’ of the dotted line:

Node A > Red > Grey > [Red] > Black > Grey > Red > Black > [Red] > Grey > IV-D

2.3

Going to position IV-D gives the key “VII-A” on the upper keyboard and at its equivalent position on the lower keyboard, the cipher symbol for the letter “A”. Going to position VII-A on the upper keyboard then gives us the key “VII-B” and the cipher symbol for “L” on the lower keyboard and so on. Continue in this way until you hit a looping letter to get the solution:
